10 Months

Month 10 has been an adventure! We started out with our annual trip to Palm Springs for Shavuot. This was Theo’s first experience in the desert – and we were a little nervous about how he would handle the extreme heat. I don’t know anyone that really enjoys putting on sunscreen, and that goes for babies as well. It was difficult keeping him lathered up at all times – but I think it paid off since we didn’t have to deal with sunburn (which I’m guessing would have been way worse). Last year, there were no babies on the trip – this year, there were 3! Theo made friends with another little boy around his age – Jordan Teller, but he was MOST excited about getting to spend time with his main squeeze Andi (Andrea). Ilana and I tried to get the kiddos together for a mini photo shoot, and the results were…comical. I have a new-found respect for photographers who have to capture good shots of 2 kids at once. Overall, Shavuot was a success. Theo spent a ton of time in the kiddie pool and loved hanging out in the lazy river. He also got to spend lots of quality time with his grandparents, aunt and uncles and great-grandpa. And we somehow managed to sneak in a little relaxing time for ourselves – though it was certainly an adjustment!

Since Theo has been having such a great time in the pool – we decided it was time to venture to the beach! It occurred to us that we spent zero time at the beach last summer, which seemed like kind of a waste given where we live. This year, we made a pact that unless we have somewhere we have to be – Sundays are beach days. Since Theo gets up between 6 and 6:30, by 9am it feels like we’ve been up forever and we are ready to get out of the house. This works out great since the beach is relatively empty at that hour and not too hot. Theo loves his new “sand tent” and had a blast playing with the sand toys. Theo also loves to people (and dog) watch from the comfort of his stroller – we have to hold him back when he sees a dog walk by – his excitement is a little out of control! I think his favorite thing has been experiencing the ocean water and sand on his toes for the first time. We are so excited to bring Theo to Hawaii and actually have a chance to go IN the water with him!! Is it too early to teach him how to surf? I guess he needs to learn to walk first…

We had some additional excitement this month…Theo is finally earning his keep! He received his first check in the mail from his Carter’s gig. We still haven’t seen any of the pictures he took show up anywhere, but we are on the lookout. We had a few auditions this month – one was for a commercial for a mobile company. I showed up with Theo and couldn’t help but laugh – it was an entire room of babies that had blue eyes and light brown hair – basically, an entire room of baby boys that all slightly resembled Theo. He didn’t end up getting that particular role, but it was a fun experience. Theo DID book another job though – packaging for an Eddie Bauer shopping cart cover (to be sold at Target!) – more on that in next months post!

Theo’s First Bite!

Last night (1/26/13) Theo achieved a major milestone – he had his first bites of solid food! Check out the video below – I wouldn’t say he *hated* the rice cereal…but I don’t think it’s his favorite thing either. In any case, we are going to start introducing vegetables next week – hopefully he’ll enjoy those a bit more!

Another big day for Dubs today! In a fortuitous turn of events, we both leased a new car and sold an old car all in the same day! I’ll start with the new lease – we have known for a while that we needed a bigger car. My Corolla and Jeff’s Audi just aren’t equipped for the myriad of accessories babies require. Granted it’s doable – but it’s certainly not as comfortable. A few weeks ago we went car shopping and settled between the Toyota Highlander and the Honda Pilot…either one would have been perfect. It turns out that a friend of ours is a professional “car leaser” (I didn’t know this type of job even existed!) but it has certainly worked in our favor. We reached out to him and immediately he responded with some  of the great deals available within our budget. 24 hours later, he delivered a beautiful new Honda Pilot right to our doorstep. It will definitely take me some time to get used to driving a mid-sized SUV – but I am really happy to have a few weeks of practice before the baby comes…the thought of driving a brand new baby in a brand new car is pretty scary to me!

While we were gearing up to get the new car, Jeff decided it was time to say goodbye to the Audi. This car has been very good to him for the past 13 years…but the time had come to part ways. He took the car to CarMax to see what they would offer him – and the amount was insultingly low. Jeff decided to test his luck on Craigs List – and within 15 minutes, he had 5 offers with the LOWEST being 3 times the amount that the CarMax folks had offered. He selected an offer and met up with the buyer tonight to seal the deal. I know it was hard to let that car go, but hopefully having the new car will ease that sting a bit :-)

In other news, I can’t believe I have only one more week left at the office before my maternity leave officially begins! With the way things are going right now…this leave can’t come soon enough! It’s getting very difficult to focus on anything but this growing, kicking, hiccuping life inside of me :-)

Over three hours spent driving around the neighborhood today to look for a new apartment and what do I have to show for it?
No apartment. (But I do have a nice tan on my left side.)
Seriously…..how is this so hard?
You’d think for $2000 we’d be able to find SOMETHING that matched what we are looking for.

PLUS, the car guy won’t call me back.
I was hoping to check off one thing today. New apartment or new car.

At least Ash and I (and Dubs) spent the whole day together. I love that.
People ask me “How do you work with your wife?” “Don’t you get sick of each other?”
Actually, I feel I don’t get to see her enough or spend enough time with her.

If it were up to me (and I’m sure Ash is glad it isn’t), we would never leave each other’s side.
She’s my best friend and I love every single second with her.
Gross, I know….but I don’t care.
:-)

Welcome!

Hey Everyone,

Welcome to our first attempt at a blog. For those of you who aren’t following our every move on Facebook, this is just another way to keep up with the latest Ashley & Jeff news.  Until we can come up with some other fascinating topic, the site will be mostly dedicated to our upcoming wedding.  We want to make sure that you (our honored guests) have all the relevant details.

For our first bit of wedding excitement…we have a special  Save the Date video that we’d like to share with you. Click on the “Save the Date” tab to view!  You can also click on the “Our Wedding” tab for additional information about the wedding (i.e. location, hotels, registries). Keep in mind that the “Our Wedding” tab is a work in progress and will be updated as we get closer to the event.

Love,

Ash and Jeff
